For over 40 years, S.O.B.’s has been widely known as the premier reggae venue in New York City, hosting concerts, brunches, post-work happy hours, & more. Our history with reggae goes back to the 80’s, when legends like Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, and Ziggy Marley got their start on our stage, followed by contemporary stars like Chronixx, Toots and the Maytals, and Shaggy.

ABOUT THE DJS:

Jah Wise has been a staple reggae DJ in New York City for 50+ years, hailing from Kingston, Jamaica. Known for his blend of Dancehall and Reggae, he stands as an official veteran and international icon within the reggae community. It is clear that his influence is unparalleled, cementing his legacy with an appearance in the classic Rockers [1978], movie. In the early 90’s, Jah Wise reformed TippaTone Experience with Mark Muzik and the late Kaya Mattress. He played next to some of the biggest sounds in the world, such as Steel Pulse and Anthony B, touring internationally and across all 50 states. With a massive vinyl collection spanning all genres of music, he has earned the title of “Walking Dancehall Encyclopedia.”

DJ GRINGO of Sirius XM’s “The Joint45” has been a staple NYC reggae & dancehall DJ since the 80s and a longtime friend & performer at S.O.B.’s. His weekly local dancefloors & steady monthlies like Reggae Room at NYC Freedom Party are known for bringing the best reggae & Caribbean energy NYC has to offer! You may have also heard him spinning for 195.9WNWK’s “Caribbean Blend” and 93.5WRTN’s “Positive Vibrations Show,”  or saw him opening for legends like Ziggy Marley, Beres Hammond, and Third World.

DJ Valley V brings a unique blend of roots, conscious, and lovers rock reggae to all of her sets, bridging classic and contemporary reggae to captivate crowds across New York City. Born and raised in Arima, Trinidad and eventually migrating to the Bronx, her musical influences are wide and deep with a focus on cultural music.
