We’re getting back to our roots with “Reggae Sunset,” a post-work happy hour with dinner, drinks, and the city’s best reggae DJs spinning all of the classics. Special menu with patties, jerk chicken, red stripe, wray & nephew, rum punch, & more! Free entry with RSVP before 6:30PM.

For over 40 years, S.O.B.’s has been widely known as the premier reggae venue in New York City, hosting concerts, brunches, post-work happy hours, & more. Our history with reggae goes back to the 80’s, when legends like Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, and Ziggy Marley got their start on our stage, followed by contemporary stars like Chronixx, Toots and the Maytals, and Shaggy.

Meet the DJs:

About Ayanna Heaven: Ayanna Heaven is a Jamaican DJ, radio, and event producer based in Brooklyn, NY. Growing up in Jamaica in the 1990s, her music is deeply inspired by childhood influences, with sets ranging from roots and rocksteady reggae, to afrobeats, hip-hop, dancehall, and funk, she brings a passion and the cachet of a diverse background to her DJ aesthetic and event curation. She can be heard playing on WKCR’s “Across 110th Street,” The Lot Radio’s “Sounds of Heaven,” and the Power of Reggae radio show. She is the founder of Good Ting, a platform intended to highlight and celebrate Jamaican music. In July of 2023 she played her first Boiler Room set in NYC. She has played internationally in Dubai, Colombia, Jamaica, and across the United Kingdom.

About African Violet Roots: African Violet Roots is a vinyl lover and selector of rare roots reggae, rock steady, early Jamaican dancehall, with a splash of modern roots. Her career as a selector and vinyl enthusiast began with her college radio show “Positive Vibes 101,” in which she spun records from her university’s vintage collection. This led her to playing records with Twin Sounds, Black Roots Sounds of Praises, and Stateside Revolution. Now, you can listen to African Violet Roots DJing for Power of Reggae, at Coney Island Reggae On The Boardwalk, and at Reggae Unda The Bridge. 

About The Night Nurse: Renowned as one of reggae’s biggest advocates and tastemakers in the States, Amy Wachtel began her career in the 1980s, drawing inspiration from Gregory Isaacs to coin her persona “The Night Nurse.”  Her widely-known radio show “Rockers Arena” has aired on numerous Tri-State stations, including WBAU, WNWK 105.9, and Radio Lily, and is currently on WPKN. Beyond her career as a DJ, Wachtel has written for CMJ, Billboard, The Beat, Reggae Report, and Black Echoes, served as publicist for Burning Spear, and worked at Island Records to promote reggae music. In 2024, The Night Nurse earned an IRAWMA (International Reggae and World Music Award) for her contributions to the music business.
