Jazzhole Release Party

Tickets: $20

Age 18+

Soul-Jazz pioneers Jazzhole take the stage at S.O.B.’s for a record release party and 30-year anniversary celebration!

Jazzhole is an evolving collective of New York’s most accomplished live and studio musicians, known for their fusion of soul, jazz, acid jazz, hip hop, electronica, and rnb. While the acid jazz movement kicked off in London clubs during the mid ‘80s, the phenomenon of mixing jazz and hip-hop eventually reached Stateside by the early ‘90s – one of the groups to emerge on the scene in 1994 was Jazzhole. While Jazzhole’s roster has changed since their self-titled debut, the band’s core songwriting and production trio Warren Rosenstein, Marlon Saunders, and John Pondel has not. Click HERE to meet the band!

After working on early acid jazz classics such as Soho’s Hot Music and the CFM Band’s Jazz It Up, Brooklyn-born keyboardist Warren Rosenstein reached out to Pondel (guitar) and Saunders (vocals), and the three recruited a number of friends who became recurring guests vocalists and soloists over the next 30 years: rappers Lord KCB (Us3), Ahmed Best (Star Wars, Stomp), Jack Ruby Jr. (Toasters, son of reggae producer Jack Ruby), Ronnie Russ, vocalists Michelle Lewis (Cher, Amy Grant, Todd Terry), and Rosa Russ.

Warren Rosenstein (keyboard): Jazzhole founder Warren Rosenstein began his music career producing, engineering and writing house and hip hop recordings in the late 1980s, including “We’re Coming Correct”, the first full length hip hop record on Virgin Records, by Velore and Double O, “Hot Music” by Soho, “Do You Want My Love” by Fonda Rae, “Jazz it Up” by the CFM Band, and many more. Warren founded Jazzhole in 1994 and this has been his sole musical focus since.

Marlon Saunders (vocals): Maryland native Marlon Saunders is the group’s main vocalist, an acclaimed singer who has worked alongside Bobby McFerrin, Michael Jackson, Nine Inch Nails, Billy Joel, Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder and Sting.

John Pondel (guitar): California native John Pondel is the group’s main guitarist, and is also a founder/member of the organ/guitar duo Kombo, who have notched several Billboard top 20 hits. He has worked with icons like George Benson, Randy Crawford, Barry Manilow Janet Jackson, Bob James, Al Jarreau, Carmen McRea, Gerry Mulligan and many others.
