On
Sunday, July 13th, S.O.B.'s presents Wale, the D.C. rapper
who has burst onto the national scene with a slick flow and a
fusion of hip-hopand Go-Go music, and the versitale
rapper-producer duo Blu & Exile, direct from
LA, for both artists' first-ever New York performances. Walewill
be performing with the legendary live Go-Go band, UCB,
for a unique hip-hop performance unlike any New Yorkers have
experienced before. The night will be co-hosted by New York
underground hip-hop radio icons DJ Peter Rosenberg (HOT 97) and Sucio
Smash (WKCR-Columbia).
Wale Folarin has been breathing new life into the genre
through dazzling wordplay, a fresh sound steeped in DC's legendary
go-go scene, andboundless on-stage energy. In 2006Wale conquered
DC area radio with a slew of original hits and electrifying
shows that solidified his buzz in the Mid-Atlantic. Wale has
yet to release an official LP and despite this fact
has manage to receive critical acclaim from print (Rolling
Stone, The New York Times, The Source, Complex, XXL, etc.)
to broadcast (MTV, Hot 97, BET, WKYS, etc) media, most of which
before he signed a recording contract. He was finally signed
to Interscope in 2008 after being co-signed by world-famous
DJ andproducer Mark Ronson, and touring
with him through Europe in 2007.
Blu is an extremely talented lyricist, with clever rhymes
that are intensely personal and witty, hailing from
the West Coast. In 2007 he released an album with producer,
Exile, entitledBelow the Heavens, which garnered overwhelmingly
positive responses from fans and critics alike, and made
him a mainstay on sites likeokayplayer.com and nahright.com.
While worldwide, people are looking to put hope into the 'next'
emcee that will give them the same feeling when they first
heard Black Thought, Common, or Slum Village, Blu fulfills
this need, but maintains something that is entirely new, unique and original.
For over 25 years, S.O.B.'s been presenting the best of hip-hop
around, from legends like KRS-One to new artists like Lupe
Fiasco. The legendary venue is proud to present a concert with
artists that are sure to change the face of the hip-hop genre.
Come to S.O.B.'s and experience Wale, who XXL
magazine dubbed 'The future', Blu& Exile, AOK and Che
Grand.
