DJ Rekha is back again, as S.O.B.'s presents another installment
of Basement Bhangra, with a series that shares its name with
Rekha's recently released album. Attendees will be treated
to sounds that are a mixture of Hip-hop and ethnic Indian music.
DJ Rekha gives her listeners a unique sound that is part Bollywood,
part Hip-Hop, part Dancehall and all fresh.
Since its
launch in 1997, Basement Bhangra has forced New York to sit
up and take notice of Bhangra, a genre of music rapidly becoming
an essential part of the NYC club scene. Although Basement
Bhangra's success is built on loyalty to its core audience,
the 1st Thursday of every month finds SOB’s over-flowing
with a crowd that comes in every shape and color. DJ Rekha's
production company, Sangament, Inc. has succeeded in putting
Bhangra and Indian pop on the map of music consciousness. Not
only has Basement Bhangra successfully sold out every month,
bringing countless new listeners to South Asian music, but
its highly visible position in New York's club scene has garnered
attention from numerous media outlets (Newsweek, Billboard,
and the WB11 News at 10).
