WBAI Fundraiser Recap
This past Friday SOB’s celebrated the 80th anniversary of La Orquesta Aragón. Known for their legendary traditional Cuban music, four live bands paid tribute to the “mother of all the charanga.” The event was organized by Marysol Cerdeira, a radio broadcaster who also produces and directs the “With Latin flavor” program of the WBAI. The Sweet Plantain Quartet, Son del Monte, Siglo 20, and Típica 73 performed and reinterpreted classic themes from La Orquesta Aragón’s catalogue. Legendary pianist Eddie Palmieri was also in attendance, and even joined bands onstage to lend his skills. A legendary night at a legendary venue, thanks to all bands and guests in attendance!
