MANHATTAN HAITIAN FRIDAYS PRESENTS
TABOU COMBO & BEETHOVA OBAS FRIDAY, January
16, 2004 For 35 years Tabou Combo has been serving up the infectious rhythm of Haiti's national dance music, Compas and in the process has become the country's preeminent dance band at home and around the world. With fans and followers from London to Paris, Holland, Switzerland, Japan, South America, the Caribbean and North America, Tabou Combo has established itself as the "Ambassadors of Compas." Tabou Combo kicks out a hot mix of grooves and textures. Listeners will get a multi-cultural mix of meringue, rara, quadrilles, contra-dance mixed with American soul and a little bit of hip-hop for that contemporary edge! Beethova Obas has released five CDs thus far since his debut album Le Chant de Liberte (The Song of Freedom) in 1990. His last CD Kem Poze was released this past fall and it embraces all his experiences from the pure sound of Afro-Brazilian to roots to Haitian voodoo without ever leaving his "flamingo flavor". Beethova has performed all over the world in numerous festivals and concerts. He also toured with Cesaria Evoria last year in Europe. at
