Thievery Corporation
The pioneering electronic music group, Thievery Corporation, was hatched in 1996 by DJ/Producers Hilton and Rob Garza in Washington DC. Influenced by DC punk, and '60s and '70s Brazilian music, Thievery Corporation launched itself with two underground hit vinyl singles, “Shaolin Satellite” and “2001 Spliff Odyssey,” followed by their debut album, "Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi," and soon became loosely associated with the “trip-hop” scene that had emerged a few years prior in the U.K.
URBAN R&B HIP-HOP
Since the opening of S.O.B.’s, nearly three decades ago, the club has been at the cusp of the latest urban talent. This world famous venue has served as an important milestone for musicians such as Kanye West, John Legend, Lauryn Hill, and Lupe Fiasco. While for some, S.O.B.’s might have served as a starting point, the club has also housed iconic musicians including KRS-One, Erykah Badu, Gil Scott Heron, Q-Tip, and De La Soul. The music of these legends has served as the reference point to many up-and-coming artists who then take it one step further.
