S.O.B.'s is proud to welcome back to our stage an old friend, one of the most important and influential percussionists in the world, the Brazilian drum legend Cyro Baptista, along with his incredible ten piece group BEAT the DONKEY. A multicultural, polyrhythmic musical extravaganza, Beat the Donkey features dance, acrobatics, theater, and spectacle to engage you in a total aesthetic experience that gleefully rejects boundaries of any kind- even the band is a polyglot mini-U.N., featuring musicians from Brazil, the U.S., Japan, Israel, and elsewhere.
Having just released their second recording, Beat the Donkey has been busy touring the world teaching thousands of new fans what "Pau na mula" means!
CYRO BATISTA is one of the most important percussionists working today. Cyro's credits read like a "Who's Who" of modern music. What other musician can claim to have toured with Paul Simon, collaborated with Wynton Marsalis, recorded with Jay-Z, and accompanied Yo-Yo Ma and Kathleen Battle? Cyro has appeared on literally hundreds of recordings, including five Grammy winners.
With his own project, the percussion and dance ensemble known as 'Beat the Donkey' Cyro gives free reign to his imagination, mixing his tremendous musical skills, his natural humor and theatrical ways with instruments from Brazil, Middle East, Indonesia, Africa and US. It is mysterious, spellbinding, infectious, irresistible dance music. Cyro himself roams the stage, conducting his troupe with fiendish glee, keeping the audience's attention captive for the whole show.
