Nation
Beat celebrates the release it’s sophomore album Legends
of The Preacher, with a live concert at the legendary S.O.B.’s. Nation
Beat is a Brooklyn-based band specializing in Maracatu, the
Brazilian music of Recífe, a city located on the Northeastern
coast. Led by percussionist Scott Kettner and powerhouse Brazilian
singer Liliana Araujo, who sings in Portuguese and English,
the band fuses maracatu rhythms with Appalachian-inspired bluegrass,
funk, rock, and country. NPR music critic Banning Eyre called
Nation Beat "the most original and alluring fusion group
I have heard in years."
For this celebration the group will be joined by Frank London,
and other members of the Grammy-winning Klezmatics, exploring
the musical connections between northeastern Brazil and the
Jewish community that go back over 400 years. The Klezmatics
are a world-renowned band that erupted out of New York City's
East Village in 1986 and revitalized Jewish traditional music,
known as klezmer, for the new century. The Klezmatics
have garnered numerous awards and accolades throughout their
career, and most recently received a Grammy for their
album 'Wonder Wheel' for Best Contemporary World Music
Album.
