Nanny Assis
The work of the outstanding Brazilian singer, drummer/percussionist, and songwriter, Nanny Assis, resembles a delicious and refreshing fruit punch. His musical influences stem from the joy and true happiness of his birthplace, Bahia. Nanny’s great ability to perform Brazilian Jazz, Forro, Bossa Nova and a myriad of Afro-Brazilian sounds along with his charming personality have deeply touched hearts and souls around the world. The way he translates rhythms and notes into pure essence snatches audiences away, energizing them to stand up and dance! In 2011, Nanny won the prestigious Brazilian International Press Award as “Best Singer of the Year.”
The Brothers of Brazil
The Brothers of Brazil, a two piece band made up of brothers Supla and Joao, were given their name by former manager of the Clash, Bernard Rhodes, when they first toured the UK. For the past three years the duo have been making songs by combining the elements of bossa nova and samba with rock, punk and funk in order to create their unique sound. They released their self-titled album in 2011 and toured relentlessly to support the record. They’ve played with Hugh Cornwall of The Stranglers, a session at the BBC, at the legendary Greek Theater in Los Angeles, CA and The Vans Warped tour. In Brazil, they also appeared live in The Rolling Stone studio and were featured in an issue of Rolling Stone. In 2012, The Brothers of Brazil released a 6 song EP “On My Way.” In NYC, they played two sold out shows. Now, the Brothers of Brazil are set to put on an eclectic, energetic live performance at SOB's on Saturday, May 18
